FAMILY OF SAUDI LEE RELEASE BODY CAM FOOTAGE OF HIS MURDER BY FORMER OFFICER ERNEST FERGUSON TO REBUT FERGUSON’S LIES
SAVANNAH, GEORGIA – The Claiborne Firm and the surviving family of Saudi Lee released the officer worn body cam footage of Mr. Lee’s shooting today to rebut the false narrative given by Former Savannah Police Officer Ernest Ferguson and his criminal defense attorneys.
“For the past two years Ernest Ferguson has lied at every turn about how and why he shot Saudi Lee, and it is time for those lies to be exposed,” said attorney William R. Claiborne, who represents the Lee family. “Just like Trayvon Martin and Ahmaud Arbery before him, Saudi Lee committed no crime, but he was hunted down in the street and murdered,” said attorney Claiborne.
“Watching my brother get murdered is the hardest thing I have ever seen. But people have the right to know the truth,” said Dorothy Lee, Mr. Lee’s sister. “Saudi did nothing wrong, there was no reason for him to be shot, and now the whole world can see the truth,” continued Ms. Lee.
The released bodycam footage shows Officers Ferguson and Randle conspiring to stop Mr. Lee for jaywalking. They intentionally positioned their vehicles to trap Mr. Lee in an area where there would be fewer witnesses. The video further shows that when Mr. Lee was stopped he was on the sidewalk, not jaywalking.
Once he was stopped by the officers, Mr. Lee informed Ferguson that he had a legally permitted weapon and began to hand Ferguson his wallet with his right hand to show him the permit. The footage goes on to reveal that Mr. Lee never pointed his permitted firearm at either officer.
Once the officers pointed their guns at Mr. Lee he shouted in terror, “You’re about to kill me!” and turned his back to run away. As Mr. Lee was running away from the officers, posing no risk, and having committed no crime, Officer Ferguson then shot and killed him. Officer Ferguson shot Saudi Lee a mere eleven seconds after stepping out of his patrol car.
As Mr. Lee lay bleeding in the street, Officer Ferguson waited more than two minutes before providing any medical attention to Mr. Lee. After briefly performing CPR, Officer Ferguson walked to his patrol vehicle to place a call. That call was to hire a lawyer.
